I got very excited when I came across this photo, because it shows Hannah in her favorite dress. It wasn’t just that she preferred it to other dresses; she actually wore it every day for a year, no exaggeration. After twelve months, it faded a lot and the lace started to fall off. Thankfully, Hannah moved on, and the dress went into the make believe/dress-up bin, where Jake came across it a couple of years later. Sam was concerned (though the rest of us thought it was funny) when three-year-old Jake went through a period of time when he routinely wore the dress, with a matching pink headband, around the house, and insisted we call him Jacqueline.

If you don’t know about Jake and Amir, you should. Hell, I’m pretty sure I haven’t even done a “Six Words” all summer long. With two weeks and a few days left I can’t help but start comparing Los Angeles to Portales; to call such a comparison “apples to oranges” is, at the very least, a gross understatement. It’s like comparing a ripe, juicy orange from Florida (We’ll name this orange Los Angeles), to the rotten, poisonous apple that Snow White falls victim too (We’ll name this apple Portales.)

LA has…

An ocean.

Outstanding food.

Culture.

Venice beach: A simply remarkable combination of the above three.

Perfect weather (as long as you aren’t too far inland).

Civilization… big buildings and lots of people.

Stuff to see and stuff to do! Always! Sometimes for free!

Work opportunity… This is where my career is! (OK, it’s other places too).

UCLA. Just sayin…

An excuse to get an iPhone?

Starbucks!

No walmarts! (Ok, very few walmarts!)

Of course there’s also…

Lots of pollution. Lots. Of. Pollution.

Lots of people. It’s a good and bad thing.

Everything is more expensive! Rent, food, restaurants… it all costs a little more.

Traffic can be a nightmare, and attempting to figure out LA traffic patterns is going to earn you a headache.

Lots of hobos.

Lack of safety and security.

But then Portales has…

My friends.

Eastern. I like class… yeah, I’m a nerd.

Everything is more affordable.

My job at KENW-TV.

Just about anything is in walking distance.

The Dawg Houze is always fun, if not gramatically retarded.

I only have to stay there until December.

Walmart is the only affordable option. Lame.

And it also has…

Wind and dust. Yuck.

Lackluster food.

Lackluster coffee.

The movie theater is in Clovis since the Tower Twin shut down. Great…

Not much more secure… my truck has been broken into in both places, actually.

So amongst all this whining and complaining, I can safely say this: it’s not like I have a choice. I have to suck it up, go back to school, and graduate. If anything, LA has certainly jaded my outlook on Portales, but it’s motivation to hurry up and finish so that I can go to a big city and stay in a big city.

But for the record, I’d rather just stay here.

rickyv:

Today was the first time I got to a taping of Attack of the Show, which is in my Top 5 favorite shows on TV. (I only watch 5 shows!) (Not really.) The neat thing about AOTS is that it’s live, so there’s no re-doing mistakes and stuff like that, you live with them. Personally, I prefer live stuff, it’s more engaging.

Anyway, during any break or long clip they would joke around, talk with the crew, and check twitter on their phones. At one point, Olivia wrote this on one otheir AOTS note cards and had one of their interns hand it to us (Thank God for interns doing all the labor, right?!) So anyway, the other two interns and myself started laughing at this, and then Kevin comes up with his iPhone and records a video of us, calling us traitors (Jokingly) (Kinda.)

Unfortunately, my ninja-like rock-paper-scissors skills failed me, and one of the other interns won posession of the note. But she was kind enough to let me take this photo of it. Luckily, Olivia Munn is on the cover of Playboy, and luckily she’s really happy to sign anyone’s playboy (she’s actually letting viewers send theirs in and she’ll sign them), and luckily Barnes and Noble had some in stock. So while I lost the note, at least I’ll get a personalized autograph from her.

O Summer, Where Art Thou?

While I really wish that the sun would show up here in LA, I’m glad to see the weather in the northeast is a little out of whack, too. Almost every day I’ve been here it has been cloudy or overcast and we will not see the sun until the middle of the afternoon. This doesn’t make for unbearable weather conditions, obviously, but when you’re used to and expecting a certain weather pattern and you get something totally different you can’t help but be a little bummed out. However I am told that once July comes the sun will be shining much more. Whether or not this is a shot in the dark statement of hope or a pseudo-accurate prediction brought to us by meteorologists, I don’t actually know. But I do know that if the sun doesn’t start making morning appearances, I’m going to have to go up to it and tell it a thing or two about doing a job right.

P.S.

Mrs. Hurwitz, despite the fact that we have never met and you have know idea who I am, and I wouldn’t be surprised if you do not even know of my blog’s existence, if on the complete off chance you happen to read this re-blog of your post I have one request: please make comments available on your page again.

Thanks,

Rob Yeager

lolliblog:

Here in the northeast, we have had the coolest, rainiest June on record. Below average temperatures and above average rainfall (it has rained 22 out of the last 24 days) are conspiring to drive us typically stoic New Englanders out of our collective freaking minds. To give you an idea of just how atypical this weather pattern has been, I recently attended the Dave Matthews summer tour concert wearing a jacket and a scarf. We have barely cracked open our windows, much less coveted our neighbor’s central air. Instead of swilling margaritas poolside, we wander the aisles of our local Barnes and Noble, pale as death and unable to shake persistent coughs. And while you may not believe this, my good friend Clarissa tells me that she’s seen trees with leaves that have already started to change color.

Speaking meteorologically, W.T.F.? In the olden days, weather ruled the harvest and hence, our very survival. Now that we can rely on chemical preservatives, weather’s scope of influence has shrunk to our mental health and vacation plans. While crappy weather is annoying, it’s not like it’s going to kill me, at least not directly, and even so, it’s not like I can bitch slap Mother Nature into compliance. I just have this sinking feeling that summer and the Sears-Back-To-School Sale are going to start on the same day.

The Clap

When I started this post I spent about 30 minutes writing it and wording everything just right so that I can pontificate why I believe audience applause at a movie is stupid, annoying, and should not take place, all while trying to not make it sound like a complaint. But I found myself tip-toeing around when it’s ok and when it’s not and how I can cleverly tie the nickname for an STD into my post about people clapping at a movie, especially durring the actual movie, just pisses me off. So I’m going to wrap it up with this: Don’t applause during movies. It fucking bugs me. Once the credits role, go nuts. Thank you.

(Today must be an off day. There’s so much potential for humor and inuendo in this post and I’m just drawing blanks.)

If this does not exciite you to the point where excessive...

If this does not exciite you to the point where excessive moisture somehow appears in the groin area on your jeans, I can’t help but question the existence of your soul, or possibly how well you’re hydrated.

This video stands as proof of that. How so? You may notice a blue shirtted and spikey haired psuedo-likeness of myself playing golf (and doing pretty good, for the most part!). That character, affectionately named “Yeager”, is being controlled by none other myself, and the video was captured by the same person.

For the record, I am actually trying very hard to make myself more noticed and take on a greater work load, but for the time being I think I’m doing pretty good.

[I meant to add in this fun fact. When Blair is playing the game in front of the beautiful LCD TV, you’ll notice that the character on the screen is not me. Yesterday, Amanda pre-ordered the new Taking Back Sunday album from the Best Buy in West Hollywood, which scored her a free ticket to go to their mini-concert for Jimmy Kimmel Live. I wasn’t willing to pre-order the album for financial and “I can copy her’s” reasons. The next day (this morning), Amanda found this thing online where they were pretty much giving away the tickets. I imagine this is because they had to fill the area for Jimmy Kimmel’s show, but the result is that Megan and I got to go, too! Hooray!

Mini-concert definitely describes what we saw. It was a short but very entertaining and simply awesome five song show. Here’s the photographic evidence as to what went on.

You know, the Electronic Entertainment Expo. Almost as nerdy as Comic-con, but more awesome in my book. You see, G4/X-Play is covering much of E3 live, which is pretty freaking cool. The problem is that the interns don’t get to go. In fact, everyone is so busy with E3 that I don’t even have to go in to work Monday-Thursday of this coming week.

So not only do I not get to go the best gaming expo ever next week, I don’t even get to go to the best internship ever. The bottom line: I’m going to be SO BORED this week. Thank God I’ll have Megan and Amanda around, even though they have their own internships to worry about.

This... isn't... news...

While getting ready this morning I saw a story on CNN about whooping cough vaccines. Apparently, children who are given the vaccine have a much lower chance of catching whooping cough compared to those children who were not given the vaccine.

CNN, did you really just air a short story telling us that vaccines do their job? I kinda feel like you’re insulting my intelligence.

Where I Do

I went walking around the other day, just to explore my area a little bit. I went to a cafe, Black Dog Coffee, for coffee and lunch. Unfortunately my sandwich was sub par, and my coffee was not a whole lot better. But that’s alright, it’s my fault for passing Starbucks in the name of trying something more local. I walked past the building where I work, which is about a half mile from where I live. I then found the La Brea Tar Pits, right across from where I work. They weren’t anything exciting, it’s pretty much what you expect. I did some more exploring, but only took a couple pictures. The buliding I where I work is pretty cool. It’s only 6 stories tall but it’s surprisingly big. Here are some outside shots.
