Today marks the first day of my internship at X-Play. To describe how the day went, let me first say I was sad when I was told “there’s nothing else to do, so you can go home early today.” Unfortunately, confidentiality requires me to not go into great detail about what I see since a lot of it involves games and equipment that are not released to the public yet, and nothing is considered “released” until the content airs. But here’s what I can share:
G4’s offices are on the 4th floor of the Comcast building. Not only is it easy to remember, you need a magnetic keycard for the elevator to even stop on that floor. I received my own keycard today, which is pretty cool. I also get my own @g4tv.com email address AND my own phone extension. But I won’t get the last two until later on.
I’m in the same building as E!, Style, FearNet, Versus, and the Golf Channel. While not all of the above channels have their celebrities, I was told by Whitney, the super chill HR person (Who knew they existed!?) that it would not be uncommon to run into the host of The Soup, or be in the same elevator as Ryan Seacrest, or, more likely, run into the hosts of Attack of the Show and esepcially X-Play. I was also told that I am not allowed to do that flip out, scream for autographs thing. No problem. In fact, while waiting in the receptionists area this morning, I saw Adam Sessler walk into G4 while I was waiting for the HR person to get me signed up. Pretty cool!
So what did I do today? Well, after my quick briefing and even quicker tour, I was thrown on the Nintendo DS to play Steal Princess, a recently released game featuring a rogue theif recruited by a king to rescue his kidnapped son in return for the considerable debt the theif owes the kingdom for what she’s stolen. The biggest problem I have with the game lies in that it’s a puzzle game. This should have been an action game. Oh well. The rest of my work day involved much cooler games, but unfortunately they are confidential for now.
For lunch I went to this nifty little place called Baja Fresh. It was very much like Taco Bell, but far better and a little pricier. (10 bucks for 1 lb burrito with steak, cheese, quacamole, and pico de gallo, and a medium iced tea). It was a very tasty lunch, indeed.
Unfortunately, I contracted a dandy case of Strep, so my picture taking has been way down and this weekend is pretty much cut down to relaxing and snacking on penicillin. But I do have a few pictures of my apartment and one or two from LA, so I’ll post those for my closing remarks. The first thing you’ll see is a hot pastrami sandwich from a Jewish Deli. Look at how much meat they put on that thing!!!
